Are you getting CAPTCHA challenges and don't want them?

Post by matthew1 »

If you're posting often and get challenges, I can "whitelist" your IP address so you won't get them.

http://whatismyip.org/ go there to get your IP address, then email me -- [email protected] -- with that and your MVS Forums username, and I'll whitelist you.

I did this for Scot850 and it worked. Sorry if these challenges get in your way. I'm trying to balance security with usability.

RE: "balance security with usability"

It's actually lazy programming that's the issue. Kind of like credit cards...I go to same place, and IT stills asks the same old question...credit or debit.

Those captcha are a pill here...if I take awhile to post something, here it comes.

I use a satellite ISP, and the dynamic IPs changes...sometimes, at those sites that "know" your location, I'm located in California, Montana, Idaho, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, etc., etc. Currently, I'm located at Athol, Idaho, and here is Google's news for there.

Hence, with changing IPs, this does not resolve the captcha issue.

So that's a "no thanks" then?

Today, on two posts, Captcha appeared, and appeared, several times, even when my responses were correct. So, I clicked off my browser, and then brought it up again, and posted without Captcha showing again.

Again, my dynamic IP address changes with time. "Thanks" is not the issue here.

Also, my satellite ISP fetches an user's request via "large data-processing center, " and which has some "100 to 200 blade servers." It uses a program called AcceleNet, which might be "resending" a previous Captcha.

When trying to post this, the Captcha came up again, btw.

I whitelisted the United States. See if that does it. Please let me know.

If spam increases (because the US is one of the top spam origin countries), I'll have to go back to previous settings on this.
