Hello everybody out there
I'm trying to find out what might be going on with my s80s transmission. The car is a2002 twin turbo 2.9l t6. The car drives just fine when cold then when it warms up the transmission acts like it's in neutral no forward gears no reverse. But if I shut the car off and let the car sit for a couple minutes it'll drive again for a couple of minutes then back to nothing.
Thanks in advance.
Brian
Something new I just noticed. The car sounds like an old explorer I had the the power steering pump was going out on. Like its sitting there and the fluid is low. I have checked the fluid and it's where it needs to be.

Was the fluid replaced not long ago? I would first make sure it's at level - read online the correct procedure, and perhaps replace it if it's completely black and smells burnt. That may be a chance.
Otherwise, the transmission is perhaps about to die, common with all T6 engine transmissions

Yes it has been done by a local euro car specialist shop. But it looks like the fluid is in the right range and doesn't smell burnt and color looks good. So can it be rebuilt or does it need to be replaced.

I don't think this transmission can be repaired. Here's the same transmission that was installed on the T6 XC90

You may try a used one from an S80 which would be a gambling. Still they failed less on the S80 as it's a lighter car compared to the XC90

The S80 4T65EV is not as common as the regular 4T65E so it would be a rebuild. Cases are hard to find so you would have to pull yours to return as a core swap if you buy a rebuilt unit.mrlafave wrote:Yes it has been done by a local euro car specialist shop.
