Updating 2004 XC70 TCM Software

Post by RobF »

I have recently purchased VIDA Dice and found out that the TCU software is out of date. Is there a way to download the TCU software myself with VIDA Dice?

Thanks Rob

as far as I know, no it's not possible. The VIDA the general public has access to is restricted to offline use only. It cannot connect to Volvo's servers, and thus can't download the executable software.

Maybe doublebug will come along and correct me if I mis-spoke...

right. you need to buy subscription first and after that you will be able to buy TCM upgrade.
If you have questions about Volvo firmware ask me. I may know an answer :)

I assume that the subscription is very expensive. Thanks for the information.

You can buy one hour or one day options but I would talk to Yagger and Henry first

By coincidence, I too have a 2004 (V70 AWD) with outdated TCM software (the shift patterns are much different than in my 2006), so I searched for a subscription. $75 for 3 days seems reasonable (if I'm reading it right) - for the VIDA Parts, Service, Diagnostics, and Software Download Application - but I presume this does NOT include the software. How much in addition to the subscription does each individual software update cost?

I also assume my DICE unit will work - it has a MAC/ESN (not all zero's like some of the clones), but is there something I can test before the investment?

All different but much cheaper than if you bought it from a dealer, usually $35 to $55

You need to change the fluid first then the software, reset adaptions and fluid counters (all with VIDA but free) then you need to perform a new drive cycle.
Then MAYBE it will be better

Changed the fluid, reset with VIDA, no diff. It's the shift points (specifically engine RPM, lock-up, etc) that are very different, especially at mid-throttle. Drove a friends 2004 and her shift points are closer to the 2006 (hers is faithfully serviced by the dealer).
