sticking shift lock 2000 s-70 fix?

Post by davidgmg »

The 'knob' on my console shifter sticks in the recessed position which prevents the key from being removed until I play with the recessed part and get it to pop out. I asked my mechanic and he said they normally replace the whole thing. Is there an easier fix? I sprayed some lubricant in there and it worked fine for a week or two then went back to the way it was. Any help?:

chances are you have lots of grime and old soda pop or coffee that fell in the console and is gumming up the works.

The good news is that if you could spray and lubricate it and it works it sounds like you just have to clean it up. To do that you should remove the console and inspect it closer.

If it is not that then it must be the microswitch or something else jamming the mechanism to the shift lock.

He said it was the switch sticking.
Sometimes lube helps but CV is right, at some point you will have to take the console apart...
