As it is getting warmer again I am trying to sort out various things on my rides. On my 96 R I noticed that idle isn't perfect. Within the last year I put new plugs, wires, cap and rotoe on ot (all oem) did the PCV twice, new airfilter.
I have an old O2 sensor, no codes, good even compression, a slightly leaky turbo, vacum lines that look good but haven't been replaced (will do soon) and a fuel filter of unknown age. Also, a few lifters are ticking occasionally.
What to do next besides shut up and drive?
96 R: idle not super smooth

Throttle body? Yes, includong new seal. MAF: no! Die to lack of proper cleaner on my side of the pond.

I have used brake cleaner on a non volvo vehicle while being careful not to touch the resistor filament things and then letting it air dry in the sun for a while. Use at your own risk.

I would check for fracked vacuum lines. All three of the 98 to 2000 Vs we have had cracked lines causing poor idle. Having seen brake cleaner melt plastic I would be wary of using it on the MAF sensor. Use the CRC MAF cleaner.
