Engine over heating

Post by Matt2017 »

I have a 2001 Volvo V70 with the turbocharge five cycled motor. So first thing first I have replaced the radiator twice because both times the radiator started leaking where the end tanks meet the core. Then two weeks later the hoses for the heat core started to leak. So I replaced them. At this point the car did not over heat yet with any of these issue, because I caught them before car started to over heat. Then about a month later. The car started to over heat. It would only over heat when I would drive down the road. If I turned it on and just let it idle it would not over heat. Now it has been about 2 months sense I messed with it. Today I started it up. I let the engine warm to operating temperature at idle. After the needle reach the 12 o'clock position. I let it run at idle a bit longer. The temp stayed fine for about 5 minutes after the engine had warmed up. Then it started to over heat sitting at idle. This is the first time it has over heated at idle. I have replace the thermostat and no change. I am thinking water pump, but not sure if that's all that's wrong with it. Does anyone have any advice.

Feel the upper radiator hose for flow after the gauge points to 12 o'clock (P2 normal position)

You should be able to feel it and the hose should be hot.

These cars do not like overheating, you have seconds to turn them off when this happens, not minutes, or you warp the cylinder heads and get a big repair bill
