98 S70 - One door locks but dont unlocks

Post by Sebil »

Hi all !

Well, yesterday, i met a problem with my nice car.

When i oppened my car with the key (not the remote), my wife on his side opened the door herself at same time . So the result is that all the doors were opened but my wife's door. I was obliged to unlock it from inside... Did she damage anything ?

And now it's impossible to re-open the door with the key or the remote : only manually from inside

So the question is : what happened ? Is there a way to repair that malfunction ? Is that clear and "understandable" for all of you ? I will ask my dealer this afternoon... And will feed back here.

Thanx for reply before !
Alex.

Your door lock/actuator totally "died" and you probably need a new one

Hi JRL

Well, i went to my dealer and after a check, he told me it was the door lock that died... He asked me 465$ US to change it !!! Damn ! It's so expensive !
I will check on ebay or in US sites to buy one (used) at lower price... Maybe it's compatible with 850 or S60 system...

Thanks JRL for reply !

Alex.

I think carvolvo is parting a car at he moment and he can likely help.

https://www.carvlvo.com/

If not, try erievovo. http://www.erievovo.com/

I've heard that they are much better to deal with when you call the toll free number rather than requesting parts from the website. I've only dealt with them through eBay and they were great.

It's an hour and a half book labor and the part from Volvo is about $140.
You can try www.erievovo.com and buy a used one for 50-75 bucks.
$465 sounds a "bit" stiff, usually a $300 RETAIL job from a dealer,
I pay about $210 for the (wholesale) job with new parts

my 2 right side door locks will not open automaticly. I herd it was a door lock/actuator. Is it one actuator for all 4 doors or one actuator per door. Is this a do it your self or not. If its a do it your self is therea step by step guide on site? 1998 s70
Thanks
Skouf

Skouf, most likely the master locking/window switch that goes in the driver's side door. When this goes, so do the others on the other side of the car. At least it's not in the middle (center console) like your car's 850 brothers. Buy one from eBay, fcpgroton or erie...wherever gets you one that works fully at a decent price. It's easy to snap out and back in the door.

Only if that's tried from the inside door loc, however if he's using the remote it's (usually) the actuators not the master switch

Jim, you are absolutely right...but I think something else might be going on (I re-read the original post). Sometimes using the key at the driver's door and locking and unlocking the car several times will reset the entire locking mechanism in the car...it's worth a try.

Ehh, not really in Gen1 cars.
I will bet 5 bucks he has two actuators that are bad
You can always borrow a window switch from the dealer to see if that works, if not then you KNOW it's the locks themselves
