V60 Interior Volume vs. Golf SportWagen / Alltrack: Which is bigger?

V60 vs. Golf SportWagen and Alltrack: Which is bigger? They're the same.
V60 vs. Golf SportWagen and Alltrack: Which is bigger? They’re the same.

In response to a post on the MVS Facebook page, where I was complaining about the high cost of new Volvos, I got to thinking.

Now usually, this leads to ~4 hours of reading Wikipedia and the greater Internet, which leads to another 4 hours of reading about the Great Pyramid of Giza, but I digress.

Not to be Snopes here, but I was very curious about this.

Is the V60 larger than the Golf wagon? If so, how much larger?

It turns out they’re within 1-2% of each other. I didn’t do the math, but looking at the numbers it’s obviously below a level of significant difference. In other words, the numbers don’t match in each category, but they are close in each. So close you need to get an objective measurement to know, unless you happen to be a car interior measurement prodigy.

It’s a wash.

Of course, the cars are in different segments. The Golf MSPR is $31,350. The Volvo’s MSRP is ten grand more, at $41,245.

Few people cross-shop these two vehicles. Few people are going to be loving the V60 then suddenly jump down $10k and buy the VW, and vice-versa. It’s not going to happen.

The VW is economy, and the Volvo is luxury, to be crude.

That said, these measurements are relevant because an MVS Facebook user brought it up. I’m not here to say “YOU’RE WRONG” to him, but after digging up the numbers and formatting it to post there, I’m not going to let it go to waste. I’m posting this here as a result of that. No more no less.

Now, before I come off as defensive ;-), I’m going to bow to my monthly pyramid appetite.
