Cardone brake calipers front and back

On the rear parking brake cables, read my recent warning on the use of Pro-Parts Sweden cables (rubbish) and the fun installing the new cables at the rear hub. A dremel came in perfect for removing the built up rust in my rear hubs to allow the new cables to slide in with a little Vaseline.

Finally, don't forget to use the tieback plastic straps for the parking brake cables (again see the thread mentioned above).

My plan was to replace nearly everything but I hadn't considered the parking brake cable. We get nearly no corrosion in Atlanta. Its possible that the cable is worn but unlikely that it has anything other than minor surface rust. Is there any benefit to changing the cable out at the same time in saved effort?

In the rot free zone they should last forever. My 99s are original in the rust belt!!

Best thing is to look at the cables just rearward of the mounting point in front of the rear wheels. The cables tend to split the outer sheathing at that point and then moisture gets in, also the cables can fray at that point. Once you have everything stripped down, get someone to gently pull the parking brake lever and then release and feel if the cable is dragging and releasing easily. Hopefully you may not need them if rust is not an issue in your area. Again some people rarely use them so again they may have minimal wear. It is not a huge job to have to do them at a later date.

It doesn't take much extra effort to swap the handbrake cable later. The majority of the work for that job is in tearing up the interior; removing the caliper and rotor to swap the cable end is trivial by comparison.
