2012 S60 accessory (ac) belt special tool?

Post by djackson47 »

I recently purchased a 2012 S60 with 52,000 miles. It now has 60,000 trouble free miles, but was thinking of changing the serpentine and AC belts as a matter of preventive maintenance, (even though they don't look all that bad). Checking with Alldatediy, the serpentine belt looks easy. Take off the right front wheel and underskirt, then put a tool on the belt tensioner, and voila! However, the inside belt looks a little more awkward. They show one taking off the outer part of the compressor pulley then using some kind of special tool to get the belt on/off (shown below). Does anyone know if this tool is really necessary and/or if there is a workaround?

you cut off the small belt. there is no tensioner.

the new belt is rolled onto the pulleys, the special tool is used to help roll it on. you can woll if on by hand without the tool though. it's not that hard.

good luck.

I did one at 65k on a 13 T5. The small belt has to be a stretch belt to roll it on. Must use OEM!!
