1999 s70 t5 ignition tumbler?

Hmm. I already ordered the part and it's not returnable. Ugh. I still might just drop the plate if it's easier. It seems to be working every time by turning counter clockwise for a second then clockwise. I wonder how long this will last but it has been two weeks now and still works. I was wondering if it could be the ignition switch since it is working, the other day I had to move the key back after starting to get the accessories to work but that could still be the tumbler allowing too much play anyways correct?

Car is in my driveway, no helpers to push it in the garage so I can work in a heated environment.

I guess I have to deal with light snow, 30F temp, and wear goggles while looking upward trying to drill the rectangular plate out, great way to work on the car (OK trying to be sarcastic)!!!

I guess this (working in the cold) builds character...

I am watching this video now in preparation for D-Day invasion lol. If this is true, I am so glad I don't have to remove the tumbler...all this is: remove bottom plastic cover (Torx), remove the rectangular plate and fish out all the bits and pieces that are already broken inside...

What this persons says makes sense (pay attention to time marking 4:15): basically dremel out only 3 areas of the rectangular plate. Stay tuned, I will report later if I didn't die from hypothermia lol...

The tumbler came today, which do you think is harder? Changing the whole timbler or the removing the plate? I wish I didn't spend the 250 on it but now I have it. Ugh. Unreturnable.

You probably want to wait and hear from cn90 who has done both jobs but my impression is that removing the plate is much, much easier.

I feel for you, I spent $250 at 90K miles. I wish I didn't.

1- The kosher job (using your factory tumbler that you just bought) takes about 2-3h, mostly because of the shear bolts, heat, punch, hammer and all that jazz. This is the kosher way, see the link below:

2- Remove bottom plate, see the DIY I just posted last night. All you need is a dremel tool with diamond cutting wheel ($25-$30 @ hardware store) and some goggles for eye protection (actually very little debris came out when I used the fine diamond cutting blade). This job is very very easy, about 30 minutes total. It is easier than an oil change:

PS: The only function you lose when you do #2 is the loss of SW lock, a function that I don't care for.

If I were you, I'd do it the easy way (removing the rectangular plate), then:
1. Save the new tumbler as spare.
2. Sell it in classified section of forum or ebay for less.

The problem is that it is for a 99 so it is VIN coded. Can it be recoded for another car?
