2001 V70 electrical issue Topic is solved

Hello all. My car has decided to stop letting the right side headlight work. Along with the inside panel lights. And my stereo lights. The panel light switch adjuster and the headlight switch itself does not work. Along with fog lights too. Has anyone else had this issue? Could it be some kind of a short? The only codes that pop up are for evap leak. Would love to hear any of your thoughts. Thanks.

That's a lot of light failures!

Fuses first, by removing, cleaning, and testing continuity. Looking at them does not count.

From there you need A voltmeter and some basic electrical skills. Go to each non working component, look for 12 V when activated, then wire trace back to find the missing voltage.

The light switch is common to this stuff so that could be worth replacing but you have diagnose that too.

You can't conclude the light switch is bad because lights don't come on, for instance.

It's always worth learning how to do this vs paying mechanics rates

Cool! Ya I looked at fuses. So now I'll check out each of them. And do the metoring on everything. Thanx!

My 06 (power/ground distribution for these circuits in an '01 likely similar) I had problems with a 'flickering' in the RH beam and interior lighting which threw me for a loop for awhile. Finally solved when I went over the ground connections for the CEM at the LH footwell behind the trim, and the two power feeds to the CEM (large red wires originate at the small fuse box next to the battery, through connector 54/40D in the space below the REM and run directly to the CEM (plug with two larger red wires). Can't say for certain whether it was the +B feeds or the grounds as I disconnected the battery and attacked these with solder in one fatal swoop one afternoon. Note the low beam power feeds from a different place (fuse block underhood/main battery cable, loops through relays on the CEM, then back out to the headlamps) the flicker I was seeing on the RH side was probably from the city light whose power (and the high beams) comes from those two red wires. The relays are controlled with current that originates from the two red wires. On the '01 I believe you have plug in relays and resistor blocks that can be replaced for the main beams (check them). On the '06 these were relocated inside the CEM, soldered to the board and aren't easily replaceable.
Also note the headlamp switch is a network com device and does not directly supply power to anything. Likewise the ignition switch does not supply working current to these circuits (would be all or nothing, both RH+LH would work (or not) at the same time along with other systems.

..4th or 5th edit.... High and low beam share the same ground connection. If neither are working on the RH side you need to trace the ground connection to the fender. If the high beam works (but low beam doesn't) the problem is in the +B feed side.

Cool Thanx. I've been checking power failures to a few fuses. (Rh low beam, sunroof, fog lights.) I'll try following grounds. Keep getting message saying multiple bulb failures on dash. Gotta keep at it when I can.
