2002 B5244S2 oil smoke

Post by blackVolo »

237 000 km on the clock. V70 automatic.

Engine sticker says:

B5244S2
Part no: 6900731
Serial no: 2977384

After cold or warm start, no smoke. But soon after that on idle, and then reving, blue smoke. After coasting down and on lights, blue smoke even only idling the engine, not reving.

EDIT: tried to make the embedded youtube videos to work, but no. They just wont work :( links to videos should work ok though.

Reving after warming up:

A little smoke from dipstick when reving:

Glove test (warm engine) (sorry about the language):

Engine has power, does not hesitate or have any faults. But the blue smoke is getting annoying, and shameful, when stopping for red light, whole intersection is blue :(

What should I do? PVC clogged, change that?

Yeah, sorry. Tried everything to make them work by embedding them but no. They just wonät work :( So I just pasted the urls, hopefully you can watch them now.

I read everywhere that Flame Trap should be tossed. But no guides for this model/ this year of the engine. Where is it? Is it somewhere on the throttle body? Or is this engine flame trappless model?

Video works, this is a non turbo ?
Looking at exhaust I thought turbo is leaking but ...guess not.
It looks like good vac, did you rev up to 2K with hot engine?
I would do a compression test.

Speaking of the glove test, the way the glove pumps up and down is interesting. Good suggestion to perform a compression test.

The glove pumps up and down when I take the dipstick out. Whe dipstick is in, not pumpng. Sorry for the language on the video, made those for a finnish Volvo forum.

Yes, NA engine, non turbo. I have a compression tester, bought it from ebay for 25 USD. Just not gotten around to measure yet.

Revving sound a bit abnormal to my ears, the rpm drops very quickly instead of ramping down,
it sounds as if its not running on all cylinders or something is dragging the rpm's down.
I would look for an oily sparkplug.

Does the exh smell oily ? it could be coolant,
when my turbo blew up the exh was oil and steam , they looked similar except for the smell.
