Hi all:
My PNP seems to be not making contact. Was stuck in 3rd, transmission service required on the DIM. Did the rapid movement of the shift lever 20-30 times, cleared up for a few days, had to repeat. I have the link from Volvospeed posted here:
http://volvospeed.com/volvo_repairs_how ... ement.html
I searched this forum but "PNP" is "too common" and shows no search reults and "PNP replacement" gives 1290 posts, omitting "PNP" from the search and giving results for "replacement". The Volvo referred to in the link is not identified except as a non-turbo. Question is, is the PNP on my S80 T6 in the same spot, so the disassembly to get to it would be roughly the same as the one referred to in the post? Unfortunately, my Vadis, when I just booted it up to get the repair/replacement for the PNP, states it expired in Feb., 2017, so I can't even open it. Guess I will have to search the posts again as I did for hours last year to look for the best source for a Vida and Dice that will install/work properly, and get Windows7 for my laptop. Also, money very tight now so am considering taking apart my PNP and cleaning contacts so save the $185 for a replacement. Has anyone had long-term success with cleaning one? Thanks.

I don`t think the GM transmission in 2000 to 2004 S80's use a PNP. It`s an Aisin/Warner thing. They show one but it`s not for the transmission in a 2002 T6

OK, I'm really confused now. FCP (as well as my Swedish Parts) gives correct fitment for a 2002 S80 T6 for a Volvo 8636317 PNP. However IPD and eeuroparts do not return anything in a search on their sites for a "PNP" or a "Neutral Safety Switch" or even a search through the transmission parts section when I log in with my vehicle. Is this the part and where is it located? Have my leg in a boot due to bones so hard for me to crawl around. Thought I'd research here before I started this. Thanks.

The PNP they show might be for the 5 cylinder S80 transmission, which there are very few of in the USA. It is confusing but no PNP in S80's with the GM transmission and 6 cylinder engine.

Enter your VIN here and it will tell what fits. I'm putting my money on none.

Legofan, you are correct. Put in my VIN on eeuroparts, came up with 2002 S80, and just like when I punched in my 2002 S80 T6 there before, came up with nothing for "PNP", "Neutral safety switch", or a search of transmission parts. So, now the question is, what does my Volvo have? As I put in my first post, when I was first stuck in 3rd, moving the shifter rapidly took the problem away (twice) so it's acting just like dirty contacts in the PNP described here in other posts.
Probably the shifter assembly, it's one unit with a few plugs for the shift position lights and computer.EChem wrote: ↑23 May 2017, 05:53 Legofan, you are correct. Thanks, Legofan. Does anyone know if this is probably the contacts dirty and can they be taken apart and cleaned easily? Has anyone done and it lasted? In searching all over I have found one used on Ebay (as I have the Geartronic) and can't find any others (I could call the dealer for a new one, probably $800+). I just ordered Win7 and VIDA/Dice 2014D, so I hope to have it up and running before the 10th if all goes well with those 2 deliveries and installs, which may be asking a lot.

From OBDII, I have 2 faults, a P0700 Transmission Control System and a P0705 Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction (PRNDL Input).
The P0700 I am assuming is a generic message(?) and the P0705 seems to perhaps be the same as the faulty PNP error. Again, since I do not have a PNP, is it likely my problem is bad contacts in the shift assembly? I'd like to take that out first and see if I can clean them if possible before I start throwing $ on the wall to see what sticks (like purchasing a new shift assembly). Thanks.
