I hope this hasn't already been covered, but I didn't find anything when I searched the forum...so I thought I'd post here.
Anyway, I was recently given a 2000 V70 GLT. The car only came with one key, and the plastic outer shell for the keyless remote (but not the guts). The previous owner said he has 2 more keys somewhere, but only had the one (now missing) keyless remote.
A friend of mine found a 2000 S70 in his local junkyard. This car has two remotes, and verified that they work in that car when he used a jump pack on the battery cables.
Does anyone know if I could simply swap the alarm/door lock module (I think it's in the dash behind the headlight switch on these x70 cars) with the one from the donor car so that I could at least get working remotes? I know this works on the 850-series cars, but not sure about these x70 cars with their wacky electronics.
Going to the nearest dealer involves a 12hr ferry ride AND a 415mi drive. This is why I'm looking at other alternatives. I figured I could live with just one key if I had working keyless remotes.
Thank you!

Will not work. 2000 has immobilizer keys and a chip imbedded in black plastic part of key is read by a receiver and acknowledged by the engine control module in order for the engine to run.

I wasn't asking about the immobilizer key (or the immobilizer unit). I'm asking about the remote (and it's corresponding control unit) for the door locks. They're separate units...

Thank you. I was afraid that this might be the case (yet another reason I don't like '99-'00 cars). Which control unit did you try swapping? The one behind the instrument cluster, or the one up in the dash behind the headlight switch?

I have a semi-related question. When I bought my car it came with one master keyfob remote (MY06 S60). In a relative hurry, I had one additional new keyfob remote and one valet type key programmed to the vehicle.
I am aware that the transponder keys can be deleted and added back in with VIDA, as the locksmith noted there were four keys programmed to the car and all the ones I did not have were removed. This involves removing all keys then adding back in any new/existing keys you actually have by inserting them one at a time into the ignition lock cylinder while programming. This addresses the key/immobilizer function only.
But what about those 2 or 3 keyless remotes that I don't have?
Receiving only 1 remote with the car, unless there is a way to identify and retrieve the 'remote code' somehow through VIDA it would seem to go without saying NONE of the old remotes can be removed from the vehicle without risk of losing functionality of the remote I already had, new remotes can only be added...or risk losing functionality of your existing remotes?
So--when I'm in Chicago (and park on the street in a near neighborhood as the POs address listed on the title I received with the car... my car went through repo... so it's entirely possible the PO could still have a key/remote) Keys they may still have in their possession will not start the engine, but they COULD access the vehicle via central locking/remote control yes?
Or--is there a way to retrieve these codes through VIDA and de-program/reprogram remotes on an existing car? IE ajkeeper should be able to plug a vida into the doner car and retrieve the remote code(s) necessary to program those remotes to his vehicle?

The one on top of the cluster.

The trick is to identify the remote that you have. There is no way that I know of to retrieve the remote programming code from an existing remote. When you buy a new one there is a sticker on the box with the remote code for that remote and that number is plugged into VIDA for the software download. It might be possible to deactivate the other codes that are there but you would hate to guess and guess wrong thus wiping out your otherwise functioning remote. There may be a function that would identify the functioning remote on the list but I don't know how to do it.mrbrian200 wrote: ↑23 May 2017, 16:35

When I bought a remote for the '99 I was really irritated that they threw the sticker away after they entered the code in VIDA. I really wanted to have that number so that the remote could possibly be programmed to another car.

When I had the additional remote programmed to the car I asked for it. I cut the sticker off the plastic packaging, attached to a sheet and put it in a folder with other misc maintenance records. So, if for some reason I ever need to replace whatever module in the car that pairs up with these remotes I have at least 1 that can be reused--I believe it's the UEM buried inside the rear view mirror.
Also interesting to note: the packaging included 2 remotes with one code for both. I only bought one. The other would have been programmed to some other customer's vehicle. Both remotes in that package used the same code. Somewhere out there...

Gotcha. My understanding is the one on top of the cluster (for lack of better words), is the antenna module. The one under the dash, roughly behind the headlight switch is the main alarm/lock module.
I wonder if these need to be swapped out in pairs? Depending on how much my friend can get the two modules and the remotes for - I may have to try this on my car.
