Timing belt interval, '93 230F, 150K KM or 75K KM?

Post by Sperry »

Haynes states that the "round tooth" 1993 engine has the longer interval.

Any truth in this?

I have never heard this one.

This is an extract from the Volvo Maintenance Chart for '92, '93 and '94 230F engines:
50,000 - 100,000 MILES:
REPLACE TIMING GEAR BELT-

New timing belt helps prevent costly engine damage due to possible belt failure. If belt fails, engine will not start.
At first glance it seems to be OK to replace the belt between 50 & 100,000 miles but, in fact, it is at 50,000miles (80,000kms) and 100,000 miles (160,000kms).

Haynes often get these mileages wrong. The 850 book is also wrong.

Haynes says 45K miles. [Which is about 75000 KM]

I'm trying to find my source .

I'll stick with the lower interval.

I always suggest to read the manual that came with the car.

it says replace the belt every 50,000 miles or 80,000 km

its on the page which says MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE
other interesting facts:

replace oil every 5,000M or 8,000 km

replace spark plugs every 30,000m or 48,000km

replace auto tranny oil every 20,000 m

replace brake fluid every 30,000 m

replace engine coolant every 30,000 m

replace in line fuel filter every 30,000

hmm ive got a lot of replacing to do for my 86..
THE FLEET!:

93 854 GLT 20v non-turbo 435,000 KM +

94 854 20v non-turbo 215,000 KM ..new engine

87 745 B230 non-turbo 250,000 KM (newest edition Jan '07)

86 244 GL B230 non-turbo 460,000+ KM
