Head/Tail lamp not coming on, 1996 S40 1.8i

Post by nutty77 »

Hi guys, new to this forum but just been looking at all the great advice.

I bought the above mentioned car at auction yesterday and on closer
inspection it appears to have been water damaged :( .

Fortunately it seems to be running ok and all the electrics are in working order except for the passenger side front and rear light. Fog lights are working and the brake lights are fine. I checked the bulbs and they seem
fine, could this be a fuse problem :?: , if so where is the fuse box located :?: , I found one under the bonnet/hood is this the only fuse box :?: .

Thanks

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

You will find 2 more fuse/relay boards in the dash fascia around the driver's right knee.

In your header you state 'head/tail light' but in the body of text you only refer to 'passenger side front and rear lights'.

Fuse 6 in the fascia box covers parking lights, number plate light and both front and rear fogs. As the fogs are working it would appear not to be a fuse.

Have you checked for 12v at the lights with a meter/test lamp? You may just have a bad connection.

Bill,

Thanks for the reply. I have found one of the fuse boxes and (as you
said) it appears that the fuses are fine. I will check for 12v connectivity
in the morning.

I have whittled down what is/isnt working.

Working

All lights front/rear drivers side
Fog lights front passenger side
brake/reverse light rear passenger side

Not working

Main/side beam front passenger side
tail light rear passenger side

Hope this clears it up a bit

Thanks
Dave
