Crazy price difference for INA Strut Mount Bearings... FCP vs EE

Post by theWIFES_S70 »

Maybe I'm taking this a little personal because my GABRIEL READYMOUNTS are finally melting after two years. (Will definitely swap in XC90 spring seats, still hemming and hawing over replacing the bearings...I know, I know, I know... I should just get struts and bearings and shut up already.) It pays to shop around folks...

Kind of taken aback by this price differential. This is for the same INA Strut Mount bearing, part number: 7130024100

FCP: $80.39 each

I probably buy 75% of my parts from FCP, and it usually costs a few extra dollars. Willing to pay it in most cases, but this would be in the other 25%.

They would reduce it substantially if you got on the phone to point that out. It pays to shop around.

There may be parts cheaper on EE than FCP, I've checked a genuine ball joint FCP $83, EE $72, but generally speaking the prices are not that much different. I'd say, $50 for a INA strut mount is quite a low price.

You know me, I love me some ker-flunk! It ain't a P80 "hooptie" without it!

I'm usually okay with paying more for FCP; a $10 or less difference, who cares! But a $30 difference? That's nuts.

When I was 14 or 15 I pumped gas at a "Vickers" gas station and they had the Big V brand oil for about a quarter a quart. It was in fact used oil that they ran through a screen to get the big chunks out of it. We sold tons of the stuff.

You guys and your used oils...

But back to the topic at hand, seems like FCP lowered their price...

I really hope that FCP isn't "tailoring" shopping experiences to individual customers through cookies (and other sorts of insidious internet paraphernalia) that make use of search histories and that try to predict customer behavior. I know my search history could probably predict that I'd need some strut parts (I suppose just the word "Gabriel" is a dead giveaway...) in addition to my likelihood to shop at FCP first, but c'mon. :?

I understand this is a pitfall we fall into when we shop online. And it is what it is, but almost doubling a price on a desperate customer, albeit bullheaded Gabriel-using customer, is just not right. Though, I suppose it could be like the "surge" pricing so many of Uber's customers are OK with.

Ah, the internet...

I suppose the moral of the story is: Listen to your elders when it comes to suspension parts...
