If I were looking to build a mid end server right now used Sandy Bridge XEON E5-2670 from decommissioned google/facebook servers flooding the used cpu market are sort of the rage right now. $100 and a new baseboard gets you 95% of the performance of a comparable/current E7/X-gen skylake- if 1600mhz /384GB DRAM is considered fast enough. Current gen 8physical/16logical skylake is $1700. The E5 part is scalable (multi cpu boards, populate a second CPU and more memory if/when deemed necessary. For a single server the 5-10% hit in power consumption is inconsequential. It was just a guess based on the timing of the upgrade and you mentioning 16 virtual cpus.

If you're running games or certain types of applications you need faster single thread performance and would want to stick to Haswell or later desktop cpu. But for a small business/moderate traffic web server these used xeons are hard to beat at the moment.

Oohh, I get ya now. MVS uses an object instance at a major datacenter. Kinda like AWS. I don't want to get bogged down in the world of hardware and co-locating, so I use datacenter hardware.

Not sure if it's only on my end, but firefox tries to load something from google.com and it just says waiting for www.google.com, never loading the page fully. The forums seem to function fine, however.

Teddy thanks for your post! I see it also with FF. I'm going to look to isolate the culprit and fix it. It's probably an element that isn't where it's supposed to be, and thus the page waits for it.

My goodness, I've found a trove of attachments from 2012-2013 that weren't present on the server. I'm currently replacing images by the hundreds, but thankfully not individually.
