This Volvo 240 only had one previous owner when I bought it last summer. The original owners bought this 240 from The Volvo Store in Winterpark Florida. They were an old retired couple who bought it for the husband to drive as his second car, so the 133,779 on the odometer is not only original mileage, but these miles were gently acquired as well. The car was only sold because the wife no longer drives and her husband passed away.
The interior, engine, and body are all in excellent shape (please see details and pictures below). You really do have to see it in person to gain full appreciation for how well the old guy took care of it. He always serviced it with a local retired Volvo mechanic on a regular basis and I personally had the regular once overs and service completed at a local dealership (Isringhausen Imports in Springfield IL). This truly is a beautiful example of a classic stock Volvo 240.
I have tried to mention everything I remembered (both good and bad). Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions, requests for more pictures, or anything else which might come to mind.
Since owning the car I have completed the following:
Tune up–– Bougicord wire set, Volvo plugs, Bosch Distributor & Rotor, Bosch fuel filter, replaced all ceramic fuses (All purchased from FCP Euro)
Replaced the both front turn signal lenses (FCP Euro)
New Starla exhaust kit installed, purchased from FCP (part # STA-21487)
Replaced both tail light housings (used new old stock from the aforementioned retired Volvo mechanic's parts shelves)
Now for the easy fixes and minor issues:
1) Original radio is a little staticky when adjusting volume (its the original stock radio, I believe there is a loose connection, just haven't removed it to look).
2) Odometer reset button (trip reset) needs replaced (easy job to complete...20-30 minutes)
3) Missing driver side mirror glass (Volvo part # 3518965) I installed a new one, it was on for a few weeks, but then it fell off (I just didn't get the retaining ring locked into place properly)
4) 3 cracks in the top of the dash
5) Passenger door trim needs a body clip
6) Rear wheel well has small rust spot
7) Needs the kick down cable replaced (Parts I will include from FCP Euro–– the kick down cable, a transmission filter kit, a drain plug, and a drain plug seal)
Small 6" crack in the passenger side windshield.9) A/C needs recharged...depends on your location but we always enjoyed just driving with the windows down.
10) Clear coat on the hood, roof, and trunk lid has pitting, its noticeable, but not horrible and not really seen from the sides.
