2006 XC90 Door Lock Actuator

Weird problem with my driver's door actuator. If I close the door too hard the door seems to lock itself. If I don't close the door hard enough when I lock the doors with the remote the door won't lock itself, no matter how many times I press the lock button. I have to press unlock and then lock again. I've locked my keys in my car like twice now. Any chance I can take the actuator out and clean it up or would that be a futile effort?
Just wondering if anyone else has had any experience or if I should just break down and replace it. According to IPD the same actuator is used on the other P2's except for the S80 so maybe I'll have some luck with a junkyard one (although the nearest junkyard is 2 hours away so that's bunk)

Just a long shot but... Is car battery fully charged? I've heard of gremlins when battery is weak.

Haven't had any problems with the battery, it's only about 2 months old.

I don't know about XC90 but I have fixed quite a few 1998 Volvo S70 actuators by taking it apart and replaced the resistor and the small electrical motor. The repair is short-lived.

I think you are better off with a brand-new actuator. Google PN 30784976, Volvo dealer sells it for about $150, which should last you some 10 years.

I just wanted to post a reply because I have a horrible habit of posting on this site, fixing my car and then not updating. Last week I followed the reset procedure for the UEM and sprayed some WD40 onto my key and then cycled it through the door lock and it seems to be fine since. I read a few posts about eratic door lock behavior on another board and that seemed to be a solution. It’s beenabout a week and the door has been behaving normally without a single hiccup. It it starts acting up I will replace the actuator and update.
