Volvo battery production date

Post by Bragg Creek »

I just purchased a genuine Volvo battery from pick and pull in Calgary and the voltage at rest is 12.79 volts. The battery looks brand new with all the stickers very clean and the terminals nar a scratch! Would anyone be able to tell me how to read the production date of the battery. Engraved on the battery itself is:. H5B292110977. The Volvo label has what looks like a part number of 30658162. There is also a plain white label on the side with the number 357 033643. Just wondering if anyone would be able to decipher this. Thanks Chris

I'm not sure any of those are date codes. The first number starting with H5 is the battery group number. Are there any stamped numbers on the battery?
I'm not sure how Volvo dates their genuine batteries. I have a (N)Everstart from Walmart.

B2 would be FEB 2012, but are you sure H5 is the group?

Volvo batteries are supplied by Interstate batteries in Canada. It looks like abscate has sorted you on the date code. H5? Do you know what model it came from?

I have found Volvo and Interstate batteries have done well. Perhaps in our 06 XC70 with it being in the spare wheel well it gets more protection than earlier cars with the battery in the engine bay. The XC70 battery I finally swapped last year as it was the original and I reckon we were pushing our luck at 10 years, even though it still tested well.

I have had Volvo batteries in engine bay versions last 7-8 years so they can do well if maintained, even in our climate.

Tried pulling the part number up in Vida but it does not recognise it. Maybe the number has been superseded? Volvo does list a H5 option (520CCA) for my V70 NA auto. In fact I think that is the standard fitment. There is a 600CCA also listed. I tend to buy my batteries from Interstate suppliers as you get a better warranty and higher rated battery for the same price as Volvo.

I'm pretty sure the correct battery for these cars is H5. H6 will work too, I think that's what I have in my car.

Thanks to all of your replies. I don't know what vehicle it came out of as it was on a table with a bunch of other batteries.
I did some extensive searches and did find a site which suggested that the code date on the battery is the one which is derived from the engraved number on the top of the case. The final four digits are the date of production so using their logic the production date is the 097 day of the year and the year number is 7. I am assuming that is 2017 as the condition of the battery is amazing. No oxidation of terminals, stickers are very clear and clean to read. It really does not matter as to the production date as the battery is perfect but was just curious as to how new it is. Also it is a 600cca capacity. Not sure how it will work at -35 C but for 25 dollars CDN I'm not complaining! Chris
