Hey guys
Do the 850 OEM timing belts have the date of production printed on them?

Probably not a great idea to be buying NOS timing belts.

The O.P. probably looks at a car for sales and want to know if one can tell the age of the TB by visual inspection.
My answer is: No. By the time the car has some miles on it, the printed letters on the smooth side fades away...

Yes they have and also Conti (continental) timing belts have a date of manufacture on them ...and on the box there is a date untill when the belt MUST be installed.eriscentro wrote:Hey guys

I suppose you know that Conti is an OEM belt supplier for these cars.

I'm wondering since we got out 854 NA in 2008 with about 118K on it, and we are unsure of the status of the belt. The timing cover has no indications of it having changed, as does anywhere in the engine compartment. A timing belt w/ a later production years would indicate a change. It's at 138K now, and I plant to be putting over a thousand miles on it in the near future, so we're getting everything checked out (needs front brakes, the belt, front tires)

I'm taking it to school this weekend (500 miles), so we're likely getting the above work done by a mechanic since we don't have the time do to it

The Timing Belt thread is below, make sure you read it, order the correct parts and also make sure it is done by someone familiar with Volvo!
