hood won't open

So after servicing my t5m this morning my wife took it across country and when she tried to check the oil level the hood would open to the first position on both sides, but she couldn't pull the black lever to get it open. Two guys tried to open it but they couldn't do it either. Any ideas?

Hey, did they try having one person lift the hood between the bumper and grille while another pulls on the release handle inside the car? Just a thought, maybe that was already attempted.

Sounds like the plastic lever has broken that has a rod that goes up to the release mechanism for the safety latch. You may be able to fish a piece of stiff fence wire through the radiator grille to pull on the top latch to release it.

I´ll have her try to lift/pull from the inside, thanks PS78.

Neil, you might be right, that was my first thought, but why would the lever then not move.

We´ll see when she get´s back. I just wish she could check fluids on a 1000 km trip...

The connecting rod may have come loose and be jammed, or maybe it just needs some lubrication and has seized. I don't have a 850 at hand or either of my V70's at the moment to have a look at the mechanism. You have 2 850's so can you open the hood on your other one and take a picture of the mechanism?

I have seen the mechanism very stiff on cars at the junkyard so that may be all the is wrong with yours. Best wait until you get the other car home (hopefully no fluid level issues) and have a good look through the grille bars to see if you can see what is going on.
