Timing belt change cost?

Post by mrreilly »

Well, I've decided o call it quits on the 740 that was given to me... It's not worth the time any more. I can't get the fuel filter off to stop the fuel leak. The battery is getting drained some how. And the tail lights don't work. It's just not worth it. I've done all I can.
So the guy that gave me the car said if I don't want to go through with it any more he'd compensate me for it...
So I'm thinking I'll ask for half of what a timing belt change would be from a professional plus the cost of the parts I've bought. And if he can't give me that, then I'll take whatever.
So I'm just curious as to how much it is to get the belt changed at a dealer or wherever. I remember the dealer quoting me on my S70 it was around $600 (did it myself). But I can't imagine it'd be the same for the 740, given it's not as hard as the S70 was.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

On a 240 it's about 2 hrs labor and the belt is about $25 US.
