I75 heading north evacuation from Irma

Post by June »

I snapped some photos of the endless bump and grind heading N on interstate 75 in Florida. I was heading S and had no traffic. This is a scary storm! I drove from just N of Ocala South to SR56 just North of Tampa and the interstate was stop and go heading N the whole time. People were just parked at every service station and in line 10 deep on US301. June

Really I should have titled this one Volvo's hurricane experience! I created a Volvo escape pod with my car. Now the hurricane is going to hit Holliday where I am at my sister's house. At the minimum I can shove the kids in the trunk to save them. After all Volvo roofs have 6 steel posts capable of supporting the cars weight and laminated glass for a little more safety. I am really worried about this one. June

How about 3 floors-up, on a nearby, above-ground parking garage?

Update, once my sister saw the car ready to have the children. She decided we would drive to my house in Jacksonville and wave goodbye to the Tampa Bay area. Boy that was fun! We arrived at my house which is waterfront and the water was up to the garage door so we are inland here at a friend's house. The pink house in the picture is my house and look at the ocean water flooding. My house flooded last year and the storm is not even hitting hear yet and look at the beginning of the serge! This is going to be a mess! My dog was freaking out the whole ride and I know for sure the stability control works great as the light came on a lot and I always felt the car was in perfect contact with the road. The rainy photo was just N of Tampa and the drizzly photo is the bridge here in Jacksonville notice Jacksonville just had a little rain compared to the Tampa area at noon. My sister's truck did not fare so well and she had to drive much slower than my Volvo. I snapped some photos and will continue to keep you guys informed. June

My house completely flooded and I am cleaning up the mess now. The dock is fine! LOL! Here are some photos to end this hurricane story. I am well insured with flood insurance of course with a top company is the good part. It cost $105,000 to repair my house last year from hurricane Matthew and things have only been completed for about 4 months now.

The best news is my beloved S80 T6 was with me and my family both people and dog. They are irreplaceable. It's the price you pay to live on that Atlantic Ocean intracoastal by the beach. When we are not playing with hurricanes it is really nice here... Really Florida in general. Hurricanes are just nightmares the yang if you will. June

I finally got into the garage and couldn't believe what I saw. Apparently deep freezers float and then tip over! His man cave is a mess, boy he is going to be upset when he gets home tomorrow.... out of all this mess I actually had a good laugh at the freezer's expense.
