Car is a 1999 S80 2.9 non-turbo. 80k miles. Dealer-maintained and very good shape.
Yesterday, I came home from running some errands and parked the car. An hour or so later, I heard a loud whirring sound... and found the cabin blower was going full blast, even though the engine was off, all the doors and trunk were closed and the key was in my pocket. I had another errand to run, so got in and started the car and drove away.
When I got home, it happened again. This time I tried turning the blower off with the switches, but they had no effect (key was still in my pocket). Then I put the key in the ignition, turned it to "run" and the fan immediately quit. Took the key out and it does not appear to have recurred.
No messages or warning lights on the dash either time. Everything else seems normal.
I'm worried it will run the battery down.... or be the harbinger of other trouble.
Any thoughts? Ever heard of this kind of behavior?
Thanks!

PS -- it is the interior blower/fan only. Not the radiator fan.
'99 S80. Blower goes on with engine off and key out.

Quite normal for a P2 series. The fan comes on to get rid of moisture in the evaporator which is in the dashboard. All of our owned P2s have done this.

Yes I have heard it referred to as afterblow. My 2002 S80 T6 did it shortly after shutting the car off. My 2004 S80 T6 waits a while like 45 minutes. The computer monitors the battery and will not allow it to run down. If the battery is weak afterblow will not come on. June

Well I'll be dipped... it is a feature, not a bug.precopster wrote: ↑11 Sep 2017, 15:55 Quite normal for a P2 series. The fan comes on to get rid of moisture in the evaporator which is in the dashboard. All of our owned P2s have done this.
It has been very humid here the last few days, so maybe that is why I have never heard it do that before.
Thanks to all. You saved me the cost and inconvenience of a service visit.
