P0016 or ECM-670C and rough idle 06 S60 R

Post by erikv11 »

A couple weeks back the idle went rough and eventually set a DTC. My wife was driving it. In a couple hours of driving by me, the engine has been always smooth above 1200 rpm, and the rough idle intermittent. Might go all day without coughing, or might do it every time the car idles during a 30 minute drive around town. I figured it was just a vacuum leak but I can't find anything. My aging Innova OBD reader won't work on the S60(????); finally got VIDA-DiCE running today and the offending code is repeatedly:

ECM-670C Camshaft position, inlet - High.
This translates to a P0016.

Car's history from PO is: timing belt about 30k back, exhaust cam solenoid "recent" maybe within 20k, and all new, crap-tastic aftermarket coils at 110k. A month ago I put in new Volvo plugs, full synth 10w40 M1. PCV apparently not done yet, yes that is overdue however the engine is also great on the glove test and not leaking a drop of oil anywhere (OK one drop, at the turbo). So anyway, hopefully not spewing carbon flecks into the solenoids.

I don't have a lot of time on this one, I'm thinking to order new camshaft solenoid gaskets and a new intake cam solenoid. If the gaskets aren't clogged and/or cleaning the solenoid doesn't fix it, then I will swap in the solenoid.

Any thoughts?

I think I have a spare intake solenoid I can send in to test. I can't charge you for that since Lee sent me a freebie which fixed my car. Pm address

Ive got a part number F34711502 but I fear thats for a bastard P80 and won't fit the P2 -

FCP calls for a 36002145 for your 2006 intake solenoid

Confirmed - the bastards have a one hole solenoid on bottom, the later P2s have three holes..

Thanks for checking - I will troubleshoot by cleaning the old one, once the replacement gaskets get here.

The screen in the gasket was not clogged, in very little sign of sludge under there. Perhaps not surprisingly then, cleaning the old one didn't fix it. But installing the new one did, drove it a lot today mixed highway and city and not one hiccup. The idle is better overall too, even when not "acting up" on me.

My bad exhaust solenoid on the 99 spewed out codes for turbo, timing, knock sensor, and something else...all of which were cured with replacement.
