After several different design attempts (not liking, cleaning off and trying something different) using my spare key as the test subject I've decided I might be a little OCD.

Waiting to do the clear coat on top until I have a chance to pick up a compatible clear. The krylon fusion I had on hand didn't work as I didn't realize was designed to etch the surface of unpainted plastic which is it's design use. That was one of the attempts that I had to strip off and start over. Both colors are metallic. Looked really awesome for about 10 seconds after sprayed the clear krylon on the previous attempt before it broke down the paint and I had to strip it off and start over. I jumped on the internet after that and found that krylon fusion over regular enamel is a known disaster...confirmed LOL.

Edit 3 coats of clear! Minor flaws in the metallic blue diffuse just enough to smooth out the appearance, metallic grey letters glisten in the light with a jewel like quality. Super Spiffy!!
Unfortunately I'm away from home, no camera, updated pic in about a week.

That key looks awesome. I have to pick one up in the next several months. When I bought my car used I was given 1 key, which looked like a valet key, and that was it. I know she had several owners in the couple of years before I got her. My guess was the issues I have fixed were driving "non-car people" nuts.

Replaced the driver side axle. Not a bad job after I figured out how to get the new axle back into the transmission - file the sharp edges off the new inner cir-clip. About 2 hours total.

Crossed 180k today. Just another reminder of the thing I have to do still! Oil change, tranny fluid change, timing belt, cooling hoses...

Not quite today, but it was certainly a multi-day affair: Rear brakes!

Almost two years after ordering a full set of front and rear brake pads, shoes and rotors for my 1998 V70, I finally decided to install the rear brake shoes, pads and rotors, mostly because I was tired of the squeaking that had developed (and worsened) over the past couple of weeks. The front brakes were done two years ago.

Of course, I was confused about which bolts to undo and ended up opening the caliper instead of just undoing the bracket bolts. Drip, drip, drip. After closing everything up (and before I noticed the unrelated grinding sound viewtopic.php?f=1&t=82651 ), I had unsurprisingly put air into my brake lines.

Lacking a helper to pump the brakes, I used the gravity method of bleeding the brake lines. First, the left, and then the right. Hence, the pic.

Thankfully all went well, and I even have a parking brake (AKA ebrake) once again!

I just bled the brakes on my cousin's S70 last Thursday. I use the Harbor Freight Pittsburgh hand vacuum pump (like a Mityvac) and that's my new favorite method. After hearing about potentially damaging the master cylinder by pressing the brake pedal to the floor and after many failed attempts of bleeding the brakes (I don't even know how that can be screwed up) I ended up buying this and I'm very happy I did.

Cool! I'd heard about that method, too. It sounds a lot more efficient than my way! I'll check out the vacuum pump next time I'm at HFT!

Well did a few things to a newly acquired 1999 V70. Actually got it about three weeks and have been doing quite a few things to it so I can get it back on the road.
1. Finally got a door lock, with the working key, installed today so that I can now lock my car! Unfortunately got it off a grey car and mine is blue, so will work on how to change out the locking cylinder later.
2. Got the window regulated finally installed into the drivers door. Worked a few times till I was leaving Bible College classes tonight. I was putting the window all the way down when I heard a load "Bang". It was the green plastic gear popping off the track mechanism. Guess tomorrow will be working on putting that back on AGAIN.
3. Re-cleaned the interior, which is all still out of the vehicle, except the drivers seat. I still want to drive the car.

Will need to work on the whole muffler system. The rear back muffler (which I think is what it is) has fallen off. Unfortunately I have now littered unknowingly. I know there was one on there when I got the car a few weeks ago. It had sat for over two years in grass, so a lot of rust on the underside. Will work on getting that all cleaned up.
Second is getting all the nice flashy lights on the dash board fixed, I.E. figuring out what the issue is with the car and getting it repaired, so I can hopefully pass inspection here in Maryland.

4. Oh yeah removed the very back set of seat belts so that I can put in a real spare tire and not have a "donut" back there.

The lock cylinder comes out pretty easily. Pop off the little triangular plastic piece on the door in the middle right around the same height as the lock, then if you look in the hole there is a small tab. Use a flat head screwdriver to pry it forward while pulling the lock cylinder with the key in it.
Took me a long while to figure out how to do it. Pictures are worth a thousand words, unfortunately I don't have any right now. Someone else could probably chime in and better describe this!
So what did you change on the door lock that makes the color relevant, just the piece around the lock cylinder? That pops off easily, just pull from the front (side towards door handle).

You can fit a full size spare with the rear seat belts still in place, but it does require some surgery to the bracket in the wheel well. There have been a couple of posts on the subject. Maybe write a separate thread with the title of 'How to fit a full size spare with 3rd row seats'.
