C30 vacuum pump sensor Topic is solved
Re: C30 vacuum pump sensor
I have done as Jimmy57 suggested, the pump runs after the engine stops, about 2 minutes. I think it could be the vacuum sensor switch, in line to the pump, as cleaning the plug/socket contacts stopped current going to the pump when the car was shut down but, as I have no schematic, don't know if anything else is in the circuit. There's one on EBay, for a V50, that looks the same but the socket could be different. I've asked if it will fit a C30, waiting on a reply.
I tried Jimmy57's suggestion. The pump continues to run. The cure, at the moment, is to run with the vacuum sensor unplugged which solves the pump running when the car is shut down and doesn't seem to affect the braking to any great extent.
I tried to buy a second hand vacuum switch on Ebay but, after sending photos to try and establish that the connector was the same as on my car, the emails stipped so I guess it wasn't a fit or it was sold. I think I will have to bite the bullet and buy the complete hose that incorporates the vacuum sensor. Much cheaper from the U.K than in N.Z.

I've tried Jimmy57's suggestion. The pump runs for 2 munites after the key is out, holding the brake pedal down makes no difference. i've tried Ebay for a sensor, found one that could do the job but the connector could be a problem if it's not the same as there is little room to relpace it (and the seller has gone cold so it may have been sold)
I'm in the process of getting a new hose that has the sensor as part of it, from Uk, as it's much cheaper even when shipping is taken in account.
Thanks for all your suggestions, especially Jimmy57

I've ordered a hose/vacuum switch from UK. At present the car is running fine with the vacuum sensor disconnected but there is still a 0.5 amp current draw when shut down. Jimmy57 suggested that R14 could be energised when the car is shut down. He's correct. Any ideas as to why?
According to the inside of the engine compartment fuse box lid R14 is "Engine management" I think this could be energised for a while after shut down but not longer than several minutes. After disconnecting the R.H. pos. battery post to check current, connecting/disconnecting a few times, R14 then does not energise. A bit of a mystery. Any thoughts?
