Search Limitations

Post by aztrix »

Howzit Folks?

I'm trying to use the search function in the S80 forum for V8 but I receive the following message:
The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: V8.
You must specify at least one word to search for. Each word must consist of at least 4 characters and must not contain more than 84 characters excluding wildcards.
I would be willing to wager that V8 is NOT too common, in fact I would go so far as to say that it is probably one of the least common terms in the forum and hence is extremely useful as a search term. :x

Additionally, many automotive terms are often abbreviated and are in common use e.g. ETM (Electronic Throttle Module) but who uses electronic throttle module in their posts, very few I'd say. :roll:

So how are forum users supposed to search for these terms? :?:

:idea: Please will you change the search functionality to allow 2 character terms or allow it to be included in multi-word search requests?

Cheers

I agree! The problem isn't a setting in the forum software, unfortunately. It's a configuration in MySQL, and not a simple one. I've tried to solve this before but back burnered it due to lack of progress.

I'll unbackburner it. In the meantime, please use the global (but MVS) Google search https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/search
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!
