Advice on buying a 1998 S70

Post by euqinnique »

I'm looking into buying a '98 S70 for about $6,900. I was told there had been body work done to the right front 'crumple zone', and the air bags had not been replaced. It only has 81k miles on it, however, I was wondering if there was anything in particular I should look for, check out, keep in mind before purchasing? This will/would be my first Volvo, I have always driven Honda Accords. Also, does anyone know a ballpark figure for replacing the airbags? Thanks!

If you value reliability/low maintenance costs over comfort/safety/power, do not buy this car.

Even if you don't value reliability, I'd be very cautious of a car that's been in an accident. Run the VIN number thru carfax.com and have it looked at carefully by a independent Volvo mechanic, at the very least. Drive it for a long, long time listening and feeling for anything that sounds or feels strange. You're going to have to use lots of time/brainpower on this one.
