It is now much nicer to drive, everyone thinks it has more power, could
be that I filled it with Premium gas and perhaps something to do with
the wires, cap, and rotor. But probably more the gas.

I just did an eclipse run on the T4 VW - I ran 93 octane the whole way. I usually don't notice the difference, but the torque between 70-80mph (the slow lane on I40 and I81) was much better.
I usually only run 93 when towing on hot tripping - maybe Ill thank Ludwig Van for his service with 93 from here on out.
For our EU friends our 93 octane (R+M)/2 is your 97 I believe.

Battery went dead again, this time I will check the posts and connections more carefully.
It was 50 degrees out tonight when it happened - usually a sign of a weak battery.
Same battery since we bought the car ~3.5 years ago, it is a good Interstate, but it
might just be time. I know, do a load test.
I seem to remember reading about a common issue with the positive battery cable,
used google to find it:

It's a black plastic clip, goes down at the bottom of the battery, clips onto the tray. All the usual suspect online suppliers sell it, etc.

Yeah - thats important Pete - bouncing battery won't live too long. Even a bungy cord will work until you get the clip.
If its rare or ridiculously priced, I think I have one from my parts car at 1/2 ridiculous price.

They cost like 5 bucks but like most 850 parts, junk yard is going to be more bang for your buck.
EDIT: I didn't see kahl's post, that's your go-to.
