V70 seatbelt and seat questions?

Post by scot850 »

So another one of my random questions here.

I have 2 x 2000 Volvo V70's one FED base SE and a V70R AWD. The base model has no sun/moonroof and the V70R has.

The question he is, I am equally large in both cars, but the base model seems to have way more room in it and not just because of the lack of sunroof. They both have power driver's seats, but the seat-belt in the 'R' is way shorter when circumventing my large figure . In fact I can barely get the seat-belt done up and it has no give at all. In the base I have plenty of seat-belt.

Similarly, the base feels like there is way more legroom and the seat feels like it goes further back.

I can't believe the floors are different between the FWD and AWD cars, and yes I know I have way more headroom in the base with no sunroof, but altogether it feels like it has way more seat, seat-belt adjustment then the 'R'.

I have heard of seat-belts freezing or binding, but in all respects the drivers/LH belt works fine in terms of removal and retracting.

Like I said, this is another of those weird questions that only comes to light as I have 2 cars.

I will have to measure both seat-belts to see if they extend to the same amount or if the 'R' is not extending as far.

Is there anyway to adjust the amount the seat extends rearwards or down? I will have to take a closer look at the seat bases as I think there may be some adjustment in the seat height or position by some bolts in the base.

Thanks,

Neil.

I think you're the best qualified to answer your own question Neil as currently the only forum member I know of with a 2000 V70R and a 2000 V70 base. I've never heard of any adjustments in the seats with regard to height or reach. Other than a binding motor due to some stones or other debris in the rail they "should" be equal. You may have to remove the seat in the V70R to really eyeball what's going on underneath.

Probably will end up pulling the seat (again). The seat I could (and have) live with, but the seatbelt is the weird one. I'll have to measure the extended length to see if maybe it is not extending to full length for some reason on the 'R'.

Thanks Mike for the reply. I agree with you that as I have both cars I have the best position to answer this, but thought I'd ask the question in case there was some knowledge out there that maybe the AWD and fwd floors are different or some other less obvious variation. I took a measuring tape out today and tried to measure some obvious dimensions. I measured from the brake pedal (both are 5 speed autos) to the front of the seat. If anything the 'R' is slightly further but it is close. Same with height to the steering wheel from the seat they are almost the same, and the height from the floor to the rear of the seat is the same. I then plugged the seat-belt in and then stretched the belt as far forward as possible. There is maybe a little more length on the 'NA' but not much. So all in I can see nothing significantly different or obvious. However, it still does not explain why the seat-belt in the 'R' is on max extension but the NA is not with the same fat large body in the driver's seat. I realise that the NA without a sunroof gives a lot more head room so it does feel a lot more roomy. I will have to see if there is any way to adjust the runners in the 'R' to give more room, or swap the seat-belts over or even grab a spare from PnP this weekend with the 50% off sale.

It is certainly weird. Maybe the 'R' should go and keep the NA? Lol!!

Could be that the seats are more degraded and/or less firm in the NA providing more "squish" in all directions therefore allowing the belt to extend further. A quick look on Vida to compare the seat belt part numbers between the 2 cars should yield answers also.

Not that I can see. Someone mentioned that Volvo made different lengths of belts, but in NA there is only one option listed for my car based on the chassis #. There are 3 different belts depending on age of the car, and from the descriptions on Vida they are all the same lengths. I'll keep trying to figure this out. Oh, and both cars only have one seat belt option listed and they are the same one.

Well that places you further down the rabbit hole......

Perhaps the person who sold you the R swapped out the belt and knew that you would be the type of guy that would try and work out why the belt was shorter.....just for kicks :D

I'm convinced you may be right! I clearly have some negative karma with the Volvo gods on this car!

I wonder if there is a difference in part number on them. Maybe someone found one that "fit" but wasn't the correct one.
