1800 generator needed

Post by T64me »

I just purchased a 1966 P1800. The generator died nearly immediately. The local repair shop quoted $200 to repair it (it needs more than brushes). I believe the original generator in the car was made by Bosch.

Anyone have any suggestions as to where I can get a replacement?

Are you looking for originality or functionality. I'm sure you can find a good used one relatively cheap on ebay. Another option would be to convert it to an internally regulated alternator. It's a pretty common upgrade and easily returned to stock original generator if needed. It's pretty inexpensive, most people use a Chrysler unit.

Myself, I would convert over to an alternator setup. I know nothing about this kit

112993 - Alternator Bracket Kit - Before you begin, it must be determined if you have an early or late engine. Beginning in 1967, the B18 block casting has an extra threaded hole just in front of the generator mounting holes like on all B20s. If you find that your engine has this, you’re more than halfway there. If you do not have this casting, this kit will adapt the generator mount to an alternator mount

I've got a B18 sitting on a pallot with a Chrysler alternator....which requires an external module to fire it up.

Google: volvo b18 alternator conversion

Myself, I would use an alternator that has an internal regulator, and make a bracket for it.

Photo: Via Chrysler alternator...these were made years ago, and require an external voltage regulator.
