1041 ALD (Automatic Locking Differential)

Post by Metallo »

Hi guys,

My 940 has currently a 1031 differential, 3.73 ratio, since I live in Canada sometimes I wish I had a 1041.

I started to read here and there and came to the conclusion that, should I change it, it is easier to change the whole carrier.

Bill from Voluparts told me that he only saw 2 1041s over all these years, so I guess it will be very difficult for me to find one in the US, unless I look somewhere in the northern states where the climate is the same as here.

Any advice on who I may contact in the snowy areas before I look in Sweden?

Thank you!
Alex

From what I've read the 1041 rear axle was used in the 92-94 965 (wagon). But with 3.31:1 gears. Also found mention that 1031 and 1041 are the same with the exception of the 1041 having the G-80 ALD with shorter axles. Supposedly US model 940's and 960's had the locking differentials from model year 1992.
