Car is 2004 XC90 D5 AWD (automatic) and it has the warning, "brake failure, stop safely. This message has been there every now and then, but now it comes immediately when I start the car. Diagnostic codes most often been at the beginning 0074 (hydraulic valve, power cirquit) and then later one or more of these: 0115 communication with control modules, 0136 Brake pressure sensor 1 and 2, 0148 communication control modules and 0042 Right rear wheel sensor (All in BCM) I did reset the codes and everything was good for a while, but then the failure came again with some of those codes
Now when the failure is on all the time there is a new extra problem that disdnot exist before. The distance meter shows only dashes and there is allways the same mileage in the main mileage gauge. The cruice will not go on.
New codes are like DSTC needs service, brake assistant needs service and 940A (Brake pedal position sensor) in ECM and in CEM A500 (CAN fault) and 1A5F Comminication with BCM/ABS control module, signal missing, intermitten. And-... sometimes 0030 (Left rear wheel sensor) and BCM 0052 internal fault, but not everytime.
Chancing the brake pedal position sensor did not help (I used volvo original part)
The BCM box is the new version where the pins are spring attached to the cirquit board not soldered like the old model. I have measured the resitance between each pinn and the the solder board and they seem to be ok (from 0 to 0,001Kohms) I also bent carefully each pin so there should not be bad connections. At least this did not help. I also remember that somebody told that the problem could also be the AWD / DEM box.
I think that the problem is missing data (information from the wheels and communication with the electronic boxes)
Any DIY advise what else I could try or test
Would appriciate I someone cuol give a hint
Late (sorry for my english)

How old is your car battery, just out of curiousity?

As I wrote failure was earlier more random (and without trip odometer and Cruise problems), and then more permanent. Failure was on before starting when I turned the key to postion II.
I disconnected and connected the connectors in BCM and CEM couple of times (battery disconnected), checked alla the fuses, bought a new battery. Now when I clear to codes the errormessages are right after start "anti skid nees service + brake assistant needs service" but the car lets me drive 5 to 10 miles without "brake failure, stop safely" message. Trip odometer is ok and the Cruise works normally... and then the failure comes during driving without touching the brake pedal. Trip shows dashes, cruise comes off and the message "brake failure, stop safely" appears.
Failure codes seems to be now:
BCM 0052, Control module, Internal Fault
ECM A500, CAN fault
ECM 940A, Brake Pedal Position Sensor (even after i changed to a new Volvo original)
ECM A02B Communication with ABS/BCM module
CEM 1A5F Comminication with ABS/BCM module
Any ideas, please... this car drives me nuts.

Had similar issue and warning message on my 2004 T6. Tried the DIY solder of the pins on circuit board with no success.
Dealer told me ABS module is irrepairable. Can't install a used one since software is specifically programmed to each car. Need new BCM and software programming to match my ECM so they can communicate - $1900.
Xemodex saved me. They did a software transfer to a used BCM for less than $300. I bought a used module on eBay for $99.

Used BCM should be compatible from what people say on forums, no programming needed. But the main dealer needs some cash flow.

And the Dealer has liability issues to prevent, hence new parts. software transfer to a used BCM by vendor or via VIDA/DICE.oragex wrote: ↑25 May 2018, 16:55PHXvolvonut wrote: ↑23 May 2018, 20:31 Had similar issue and warning message on my 2004 T6. Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)
