Boost control valve
Boost control valve
I have a 2001 s60 nonturbo and I found a sensor that is new to me. It’s on the radiator by the air box. I’ve searched and found it is called the boost control valve or a turbo boost control valve. I found nothing with a 2001 non turbo having this part. I found it online for $30 or so. I just don’t know if it is the right part for my car or not. I tested the vacuum on this and revved the engine, there was no vacuum from either opening so I’m assuming it’s broken. The gauge stayed at zero even when the gauge should of had vacuum from the engine. I have a lack of acceleration and pressure that causes my car to idle at 700 or so. Also when accelerating sometimes the rpms surge then fixes itself. Could this be a culprit?

On a non turbo car, by the location you are describing, what you are looking it is the EVAP canister purge solenoid. At a glance it looks similar to the boost/TCV on a turbo car but has two hoses attached to it instead of 3.
Thank you that makes more sense now. So this would not have any relation to the symptoms or could it still be a problem? I’m also thinking the MAP sensor could be a problem as well. The car is running lean at times so I’m thinking the MAP could be at fault.

A failed or sticky canister purge valve might result in symptoms that could be somewhat comparable to a vacuum leak or leaky injectors. (running rich or lean, improper idle speed) A bad MAP might result in any of that too.
I have a P0420 code for cat insufficiency. I’ve had the dealer say it’s the cat but I’ve read elsewhere it’s vacuum leaks most often. I do not have a leak so I began looking for sensors such as these for if they are bad. The MAP and purge valve are the only two sensors I have yet to replace. I also have yet to look for leaky fuel injectors. I plan on doing that this weekend. Hopefully it’s one of the sensors or a fuel injector. It’s an 01 with 212k on it so originals are probably toast. So these symptoms with the code may be a result on one of the things I said a few lines above this. Fingers crossed.
