Alex ...noise on turning is classic wheel bearing wear, and noise turning left points to right front wheel bearing.

Not a bad job, about two hours and $100 for bearing.

You can't diagnose bearings at low speed or with jacking and spinning wheel, the bearings on these cars are overbuilt and will feel fine even when at end of life,

On the upside, I've driven growlers 10-20000 miles with impunity

Just replaced my 2005 V70 beating with 115k on it, my guess is these things fail from time/corrosion. My friend Erik has driven a gaggle of Volvos and I still think has never done a FWB. I've done three on mine. Maybe race has a bearing on the matter, or he is just needling me.

Hi,

The right wheel hub bearing in brand new, I changed it in August and I would be surprised a defective bearing would sound that way.

Let me jack up and see if I notice anything strange.

Hi,

I cannot see anything that might be causing that squealing noise, however during the parking lot drive we did yesterday, afer having tried turning of the left to re-create the noise, we noticed that soon after it did it while turning on the right, but the noise still appeared to come from the right wheel.
Today I will go for another ride and see if I can get any additional hint.

Some pictures of the suspension assembly I just took.

Is this at full lock or also in partial turns?

Davezx6r wrote: 25 Oct 2017, 13:56 If I heard the sound from the video correctly it sounded more like almost a squeal. Stupid question maybe but did you check the rotor shields to make sure that they aren't rubbing against the rotor? I have had that happen before if they get bent during repairs just enough to almost touch the rotors. And then for whatever reason, they make contact when the wheel is turned. Other than just guessing I would say get the car up in the air and see if it makes the same noise. It should be a lot easier to pinpoint that way.
While inspecting the rotor shields I noticed that the bottom part of both of them was about 3mm from the rotor, so with very little hope that they were the root cause of the problem due to them touching the rotor, I just bent them to make this distance as bigger as possible, about 6mm.

Guess what, squealing disappeared :D

Like Dave said in his first post above, for whatever reason, they make contact when the wheel is turned, but only when the car is moving because when I turned the steering wheel and the car was jacked up, the shields were not touching the rotors.

Anyways, all's well that ends well.

This forum is a life saver for the Volvo DIY's :D

Ah yes, when jacked up,the wheels hang away from the suspension so the geometry changes.

Excellent troubleshooting.

I notice the control arm bushing is starting to tear already. Was that bush OE or aftermarket?

I think it is the picture, they are the genuine Volvo ones, I did not notice anything wrong when I looked at them.
After two months I would be

by the shiny bolt at the top, I would say this looks to be a recent replacement control arm. the darker looking rubber area looks suspect to me as well. What is it stamped on the ca?
