The cleanest S90 has a bad Alt/regulator but with a fresh battery all the sudden won't start, all lights turn on like normal, none flashing but no power to the starter, I can hook up external starter and it starts fine, and runs great.
It acts like no juice is getting to the solenoid, could this be an alarm issue? No flashing or honking... or in the ignition switch itself? All fuses seem good but it happened the first day I bought it, I waited for it to cool down, thinking it was warm and it started all the sudden
Thanks again for the help
Terry
S90 no start Topic is solved
Sounds like an electrical issue, could be a variety of things... Mine has what I believe is a PNP switch issue, won't start
on a good battery, getting the transmission shifter through the gears and back sometimes gets it resolved. The issue seems
to be pretty common on 960/S90s. Just a thing to consider.

Thanks, I found an alternator at the junk yard, will test it tomorrow but bought a battery today at Oreilly and have the same issue, I'll research that switch and change it out.
I tried the shifting, run thru the gears and neutral, all were same - while I was pulling the gear indicator to see if anything was disconnected or?, I pulled the ribbon cable apart, it looks like it would identify the gear selection and illuminate it, it came apart pretty easy, wondering if that may have been the culprit
Thanks again for your help

Tried the bypass at the connector in the fuse block under the hood, no luck. Ran it straight to small connected at solenoid... Nothing

The only thing electrical on the top side of the A/T shifter on your car is the shift interlock (the part that requires pressing the brake pedal to shift out of park) and the mode selector switch. The neutral safety switch is on the trans.TerrDawg wrote: ↑08 Nov 2017, 22:16 Thanks, I found an alternator at the junk yard, will test it tomorrow but bought a battery today at Oreilly and have the same issue, I'll research that switch and change it out.

Does the starter relay click when you toggle the key between run and start?

Thanks for the feedback ,,, no click, just lights on dash and headlights go out when in start mode then come back on
I understood the white connection under the fuse box was a starter bypass - another blogger had used this for 2 years supposedly - guess I'll check the V90 and see if it lights up when started.
I didn't want to go to the trouble of tackling the PNP switch because I really don't have a place to do it, I'm in an apartment and neighbors are getting funny - I don't really trust local shops (had a couple bad experiences and I'm highly mechanically inclined and they still tried to BS me)
If nothing else I guess I can put a remote switch in the interior somehow but didn't want to get trailer park on such a clean unit

I've not checked it, I'm guessing the only way to check is a test light,,, but it seems to work, but if the lights didn't go out I'd think ignition switch right away. The clock is showing 275K so it's possible ...

Easy to check at the starter relay. The #2 starter relay terminal will go on as the key is turned from on to start, if everything is working. If #2 does not go on as the key is turned turned from on to start, it is the ignition switch or the anti-theft if you have that option.
Pull the starter relay and probe for a terminal that come on with the key in start position.
One terminal is the signal from ignition switch start position.
One terminal is the ground for the starter relay coil, it goes to the starter relay fuse which is on the ground side of the coil.
One terminal should be on all the time, it comes from the main fuse box on the other side of the engine compartment.
One terminal is the line to the switch on the transmission, then to the starter.
Try swamping the AC relay with the Starter relay, they are the same relay, If the the starter works, it is a bad relay coil.
