no rear wheel drive on 2007 xc70

last winter I noticed when the car called for awd in the snow a flashing light would appear on the dash and the awd would not engage, only had fwd.

I have reviewed servicing the haldex and see that a pump clean, new filter and oil change is a maintenance item.
car has 180k.

So 3 questions:

1. Is it likely that by servicing the haldex the awd will be restored?
2. If so, can the pump be removed without removing the entire drive unit on a 2007? video I watched indicated only a haldex 4 can be serviced without removing the prop shaft.
3. what is the oil to go back in - use only volvo oil?

None whatsoever.
You need to pull the stored codes with VIDA. It can be one of five different problems.

He's talking about his Haldex. Nowhere is there anything about engine oil being discussed

The haldex/AOC is filled with something most like motor oil. It is not as thick and does not have the distinct stench of rear axle lube. It is not red like ATF and is not as thin as ATF. It is a mid-weight oil with specific additives to modify it for a wet clutch use.
The fluid is available from any of the car makers using that system and it used to be available in a Haldex container.
Borg-Warner bought Haldex 6 years ago and that may have changed the availability of the fluid other than through the car maker parts system.

I do not have have a VIDA so will likely take this to the dealer for testing and codes.

If I were to buy this diagnostic tool, what manufacturer/model is recommended?

currently maintain a 2004 xc70, 2007 xc70, and a 2010 xc90.

Post your location in your profile, many of us own the vida software. It will cost you 2 trips to the dealer to buy vida installed on a used laptop and a dice interface, $280. I couldn't imagine working on mine without the ability yo read the codes plus it does a whole lot more.
