My father was an automotive design engineer. I recall stories of live oil changes, that is they would change the oil with the engine running. Because if they shut down the engine, the engine would lose all its heat in the short time it takes to drain and fill a crankcase. At temperatures that low, the tolerances would tighten up so much, they would not be able to get the engine started until the next spring.

Verkhoyansk - In 1775, it was moved to the left bank of the Yana River to facilitate tax collection... Between the 1860s and 1917, the town was a place of political exile, with some of the more prominent exiles including the Polish writer Wacław Sieroszewski, as well as Bolshevik revolutionaries Ivan Babushkin and Viktor Nogin.
There is a river port, an airport, a fur-collecting depot, and the center of a reindeer-raising area. It is also home to the Pole of Cold Museum.
