The definitive P80 Power Steering Pump Pulley Tool: Lisle 39000

Post by theWIFES_S70 »

Don't know what it was about this puller that inspired confidence. But after a little back and forth (and installing this thing wrong a few times) I was able to pull the pulley off. This was off a 95 850 so the pulley was wedged on there for over twenty years!! It was $50 though... I will have to replace my brother's power steering pump one day... and he's got two P80s so maybe it'll pay for itself?

Thanks, I found this thread earlier (and another one with the same tool) but I was hoping someone else had used the tool that I can rent (this one for reference - https://www.partsource.ca/products/7703 ... -installer). Pretty pricey to buy either one unfortunately

The GM pump assembly in this video looks remarkably like the P80 pump, but it'll come down to whether the threads are compatible or not.

Have you tried Princess Auto? Do you have one on the 'Island'. They may have an own brand tool. They also ship.

Anybody used the OTC 4530? It says 1-1/8", 1-1/4", 1-5/16" and 1-3/8". I just measured the hub on my pump and it's 1.165".

I used a 3 jaw puller to remove the pulley which was quite effortless. Made a loud 'pop' when it became unstuck from the shaft, then just had to thread it off. I threaded a 3/8-16 bolt into the shaft so that the puller didn't mar up the shaft. The diameter of the puller's shaft was also too large, so you need something to be proud of the pulley lip to press on. I had to unthread the bolt a couple of times as the pulley worked its way off the shaft

The reinstalling tool from OEM Tools kit that I originally inquired about worked great for putting the pulley on the new pump.
