94 960 transmission

My transmission fluid reads high when the car is cold and low when it's hot. So I'm thinking if I don't want to burn it out letting it slip like it did when it was nice and warm yesterday I'd best try some preventative maintenance. I've drained and refilled, drained and refilled, drained and refilled and the fluid is better but still dirty looking so I'm ready to drop the pan and replace the filter. The parts house says they have the kit for an AW71 transmission for $11.99, which sounds really cheap but who am I to argue, but that if I have the other transmission they'll have to order it. Is "the other one" the ZF transmission ? And can I tell which I have before I put the car up on ramps and crawl under it ? Also, am I going to be able to get to the filter, screen or whatever it is with the car just up on ramps ? Is there any secret to this or special tools needed ? I've learned better than to take it to a shop. My piggy bank can't stand the $100 plus per hour they charge around here when the car says Volvo on it.

The only '94 960 to use the AW71 transmission was the RHD fitted with the B230GT engine.

The cars with the B6304F engine used the AW30/40.

None of the 960s used the ZF.

Access to the strainer should be possible on ramps.
