Alex mentioned he recently replaced the bushes on that side.
It could just look darker because it's stretched. What's interesting is that the only part of the bush that flexes/stretches are the first few millimeters right in and around the center bolt. That's probably why they don't last. If the stretching were more uniform across the radius the inside few millimeters wouldn't get over stressed and tear apart. Getting it to behave better would be an engineering/materials conundrum. And I don't like any of the aftermarket poly bushes I've seen for that position because they don't adequately address the LCA's wanting to float up/down and rattle against the subframe. Which I think also allows very unwanted dynamic changes in the geometry as you roll over dips and bumps. Any poly insert that's going to work properly there is going to have to be more complex than the rough cylindrical shape with a hole through it that they all seem to be.

I just watched the new video. Sounds like one of the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse. What was the verdict?
edit. My fault for not noticing there were 3 pages.
Yeah, those shields have bitten me and others more than I care to mention. I always go around and pull them away anytime I finish doing work now. Glad it was that simple for you.
