HID headlamp adjustment 04 V70

Post by SteveBaker »

Hi

My first time here - neat site.

This may be just poor search technique on my part but I can't find this one answered elsewhere. My V70 came with very cool HID headlamps. Unfortunately they're aimed a bit too low and there are no obvious adjustment screws. Does anyone here know how to crank these things up a notch?

Thanks.

Steve

Yes there are.
If you look on the radiator support right above the headlights you will see two holes and if you DO have the biXenons inside those holes is a 6mm nut.
You will need a 6"-8"extension and a 6mm small socket, turn the knob clockwise one turn or so.
Best to do this against a wall in the dark, then you can see how much you need.
Usually one to one and a half turns is sufficient
You should have this nut, my 06 R does and has BiXenons
(Depending on if these are the old bi Xenons or the NEW 06-07, non R Xenons)

Wow, this is great. I looked down and there were 2 little white plastic knobs. The 6mm socket went right on. It's not dark here in themidwest yet so I'll have to wait a couple of hours to see how it worked.

Thanks, JRL!

Just remember don't make them too high. If you can park the car behind another, 2 or 3 car lenghs behind, make sure the Low beams do not go over the trunk of the car in front, (and blind them)!
Then gat behind the fog lights, there's a rod behind each. Twist the fogs UP so they bland in with the low beams and fill in the gap.
When this is done they too are very usefull and work well with the low beams.
Now if you want the software download number to be able to have the fogs on with the high beams too, contact me

Well. traffic rarely flashes me when I run high beams all the time, so I think I have some room to play. I'm taking them up a bit at a time.

Neat idea about those fog lamps. Too bad I don't have any. Thanks anyway.

How do you have a car equipped with Xenons, an $800 option and have no fogs???????????????
Strangely equipped Volvo
(BTW, you would not have found the answer here as I think hardly anyone on this site has OEM HID's, too new)

Nope, no fogs, unless they're as well camouflaged as the headlamp adjusters. Maybe that's why I got such a good deal on it.

BTW, the Volvo dealer hadn't a clue on this one. The service manager gave me a blank stare and said he thought they couldn't be adjusted. So, thanks once again. My night's a little brighter.

Again, as I have said many times to others, this would be a VERY GOOD TIME to find another dealer, one who just may be somewhat COMPETENT! and know a bit about the cars he services
This guy's a moron, you may want to show him how HID's are adjusted when necessary.
Now all you have to do is spend $3000 on a pair of Euro lights with the proper halogen spot high beams as I have, (they go where your DRL's are).

(Oh god I hate to see what he does with an R)!
