Look at this Tesla Roadster prototype acceleration
It's simply bananas. And it's said to have 600 mile range. It'll debut in 2020 for around $200k.

Pure EVs have their market, but aside from city dwellers I suspect the Mazda Skyactiv X engines (and eventual plug-in hybrid variants) will be the short-mid term winners with econ conscious car buyers here in the states. If Skyactive X lives up to the hype automakers will have little choice but to license the technology from Mazda. The current Volvo l4's may be somewhat short lived if they can't be modified to suit.

I'd bet Volvo engineers are keeping pretty close tabs on Mazda's progress in this area.

Looks good. Didn't read the whole thing, but enough to see where they're going.
I'm looking forward to seeing this in a prototype... and seeing the mpg.

I read a tech article a year or less ago, and it was suggested they would not...back then. Other OEMs have considered or tried...but dropped it.mrbrian200 wrote: ↑28 Nov 2017, 14:36If Skyactive X lives up to the hype automakers will have little choice but to license the technology from Mazda.

A 200k price point will fit Elons production capacity perfectly....

Hey, that's cheap, when compared to this: Aria FXE is a 1,150 HP American hybrid hypercar
Final pricing hasn’t been revealed, but figure on the FXE being upward of $1m.
