1998 v70R Awd fuel pump question UK

I'm in the process of changing my 20yr old fuel pump in my 1998 v70r awd. I opted for the cut access after finding out how much hard work was involved.

I am fitting a 342 walbro pump and I now understand that it is not strait forward as I first thought. I have got the pump now back in the casing and ready to get back into the car however it doesn't have a fuel return inlet on the pump. To get round this I hear you can make a hole in the casing to let it drain.

Is this right? and has anyone got experience of the above and is there anything I have missed?

Fuel return line is on the fuel pump casing(assembly) not on the pump itself.
One port is feed line and the other is return line.

Thank you for you response. It is the pump I have more of a worry about. The pump on the right is the New one and doesn't have the green side inlet like the old one.

I have made a hole in the bottom of the casing as I have heard this will resolve the issue... is that correct?

Yes the pump that cam3 out was a walbro as they mention in the link you posted. There is no mention however of the green inlet on the side of the pump. It doesnt look like the New walbro they are putting in has that inlet also.

However did they need to cut holes in the outer casing to compensate?

Does that green inlet suck the return fuel line? Without it will it work correctly?

As mentioned not been strait forward but I have been taking pictures as I go and I hope to get it soldered back into the car later if rain holds off.
