Those reservoirs seep PS oil when they get old - check the level and if it is ok, don't sweat it.

It might help you get rid of that hose clamp with a good Oettinger clamp on that PS line.

On the coolant side, usage of 500 ml per 3 months or less can be ignored and ascribed to quantum mechanical coolant tunneling. Its a real thing. You can look it up. It might not be as popular as 'fetch' which is British slang, but it is a thing..

Good stuff. I have a new PS hose for it, too, which I would've replaced had it not been for the polar vortex.

I did mean to mention that there was fluid leaking on to the pavement when I parked, maybe three tablespoons' worth, and it wasn't from the washer fluid I spilled. (That we a separate wet spot on the road.) I thought I'd sop it up with a white napkin to see what color it was, but didn't have any.

I thought I'd read that the water pump is designed to weep before failure, which is why I wondered about it. I have one ready to install, along with a timing belt, whenever the thaw arrives.

If you take off the timing cover and look at the water pump, you'll see if it's leaking pretty easily.

Take off the bottom splash shield and look for coolant residue (white chalk-like substance) and try to pin point where it's coming from. No need to play coolant roulette!!

On an MT N/A your life is simplified:
- Four hoses (upper, lower radiator hoses; heater hoses)
- Upper and lower radiator inlets;
- Thermostat outlet;
- Engine coolant outlet;
- Thermostat housing;
- Coolant reservoir outlets (upper and lower);
- Coolant reservoir tank cap;
- Heater hose inlets on the back/side of the engine;
- Heather hose connections to the firewall;
- Water pump;
- and, of course, a possible hole in your engine spewing coolant!

You installed new Rein hoses with spring clamps, right? There was a review on MVS about those clamps leaking so let's hope it's just that.

Other than that, radiators on these cars are not as robust as they used to be in 2000... I am going to pick one up and get one in our car once the weather let's up!!

The good news is that all the new radiator hoses appear dry, as well as the heater hoses. No new leaks, coolant smell, wet spot or steam from the engine today (or last night), but I did notice a damp hose where it meets the timing cover (upper right section in the photo below).

Probably a pinhole leak. Just replace it soon before it becomes a large leak!

Today I put my 855 turbo into the storage shed for the last time. By the end of April she will be back on the road permanently. Cant wait for that day.

Washed it! It looked like it got attacked by a salt truck with the weather we’ve been having here and lines for car washes not closed due to the cold have been insane so it was actually a bit of an achievement😂.

Just washed mine yesterday too! Fortunately no salt other than in the wheel wells, but the car was nasty with layers of dirt that a little rain the other day spotted up.

Just did my fuel filter. I was expecting the filter to be easily accessible on the passenger side until I couldn’t find it. I don’t know if it’s because this is a 99 or an AWD model but it was way up in the back of the car. Also I couldn’t find a schrader valve back there like I’ve seen in older models. I did release fuel pressure from the rail and waited about an hour after driving to start but I got an annoying amount of fuel all over the place regardless.
Oh well at least it’s done. Other filter wasn’t original but had to have at least 30K on it.
Question: my manual for this 99 it says to replace the fuel filter every 50K, in my 98 it said 30K. Besides the location of the filter what changed that justifies increasing the maintenance interval 20 thousand miles?
