Thank you for the assistance. That last video was very informative. Makes me realize I probably should not have attempted this. LoL. But here I am.

I will see what I can do with what I got. Which does not include much cash. But I would ask your opinion on this:

Just get those lifters sorted out and you should be good to go.

Also, I pulled a couple lifters out to inspect them. A couple are pretty clean on the inside, but most are not. When I clean them, I can see some numbers.

1614
991204B

And

1604
000218B

Do these have any meaning I need to be aware of?

Since I pulled the head off again, I figured I should do the valve seals. Finding a compressor that will work has been a challenge. I eventually had to make something to work with the one I got.

Removal of the springs was not too difficult. The valves are a mess so I am cleaning them up and lapping.

Any suggestions on:
1. removing the valve seals. The one I did just fell apart.
2. Replacing the valve collar

Not sure how to sort those lifters out but I used basic tools to get the valves out, back in, remove seals, etc. The main difference that I do now is lap the valves with a drill and hose, much easier.

I read through that post several times and I think it finally clicked. I think I understand how to sort out the lifters.

Those numbers inside the lifters are their size. 16.04, 16.14, 16.08, etc... the clearance I'm checking is between the lifter and the cam. The post write up is quite detailed.

Now I need to clean inside the lifters so I can read those numbers.

Right now though, I got carbon build up on the valves that has hardened into a new surface. Trying to get all that off so I can lap valves (lapping tool won't suck to the valve with all that stuff on it). I got 4 valves done on the intake side. Tried my hand on one valve on the exhaust side and so far, I can't imagine how that stuff is going to come off...

definatly check the timing like everyone here is saying to do.
remove the rear cam plugs also so you can see where the cams are pointing when you line up your marks again on the front side.
intake should be straight across and the exhaust cam should be off just a bit say ten oclock ish. it is best to have the tool to line these up. nice on on ebay for 40 bucks free shipping.
honestly though what you are bescribing sounds like no compression. if your marks are good and you feel like going for it, remove the plugs and put some motor oil in the cylinders 3 table spoons is good and with the plugs out crank the motor over lets hope some oil shoots out. this will help rebuild any lost compression if you have any...
at this point hit the fuel rail test port and hope you get squirted with fuel..
put the plugs back in and give it a try.
